New Book Coming Soon and Prints

I have signed a contract with Homa and Sekey Books for the publication of a collection of my Disappearing Shanghai photography. The book is being done in collaboration with the author and Shanghai native, Qiu Xiaolong, who will be writing an appreciation of the work and of the subject itself, Old Shanghai. This is a very exciting development for all involved, and I will keep you posted on the progress. The expectation is for a book to be published in 2011. By the way, I have just re-scanned a great deal of my work, including much that can be seen here, and I have upgraded my printing operations dramatically, obtaining a top-of-the line Epson, and as a result, I am again taking orders for exhibition quality prints. An upgrade of the website is also underway, and a lot of recent or previously undisplayed work, including the product of a full summer month in Burma, will soon be viewable here, in much more attractive format. Finally, I am embarking on the first in a year-long series of trips to Africa in mid-December, and will be working on a new portfolio associated with this travel. Please stay tuned! Howard

Yangon Gallery Added

I’ve just completed two one-week workshops for photojournalists from Myanmar, conducted in the economic capital, Yangon. The focus of the courses was documentary photography, drawing on some of the historic greats in this field, and overseeing the projects of the participants. It was an awful lot of fun, and the participants really invested themselves in the experience. I have posted a gallery of my own work from Yangon (in color) here.
